About the system
Will rooftop solar generate enough power for my whole home?
A correctly sized system can offset 80–95% of your home's daytime electricity use. The exact percentage depends on your roof area, panel orientation, and consumption pattern. After a free site survey, we'll show you the expected offset for your specific home.
What about during monsoon and cloudy days?
Generation drops on cloudy days (typically 30–50% of clear-sky output) but doesn't stop. Across a full year in AP/Telangana, monsoon impact averages 8–12% lower generation. We size systems with that already factored in.
What happens during a power cut?
A standard grid-tied solar system shuts off during a grid outage — a safety requirement so that workers repairing the grid don't get shocked by your solar output. To power your home during cuts, you'd add a battery backup (we can quote one with the original install or add it later).
Can I add a battery later for backup?
Yes. The inverter we install supports adding lithium-ion batteries later. We'll quote both options at survey time so you can decide upfront or defer.
Subsidy
What is the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana?
A central-government scheme launched in February 2024 to subsidise rooftop solar for residential consumers. It covers up to ₹78,000 for a 3 kW system — paid as a direct credit after net-metering goes live. SolarSon is an authorised installer; we handle the paperwork end-to-end.
Is the PM Surya Ghar subsidy actually real?
Yes — it's a Government of India scheme launched in February 2024, administered by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The official portal is pmsuryaghar.gov.in. SolarSon is an empanelled installer authorised to file applications.
How long does the subsidy actually take to come?
From application to credit, typically 60–90 days end-to-end. Technical feasibility approval: 7–14 days. Installation: 7–10 days after that. Final inspection and subsidy credit: 30 days after commissioning.
What if I've already installed solar — can I still claim?
No — the subsidy is only for new installations. The system must be commissioned after the application is approved.
What documents will you need from me?
PAN, Aadhaar, last 3 electricity bills, last 6 months bank statements (only if applying for an EMI loan), and your sale deed or owner NOC. Everything gets uploaded over a secure WhatsApp link — no government office visits.
Financing
Can I claim the subsidy if I'm paying through EMI?
Yes. The subsidy is credited to your bank account regardless of how you fund the rest of the system. Most customers use the subsidy as the down payment effectively, and finance the balance.
Installation & ownership
Will my roof be strong enough to hold the panels?
For a typical 1–5 kW system, yes — the additional load is around 12–15 kg per square metre, well within standard residential roof capacity. We do a structural visual check during the survey. If your roof needs reinforcement (rare), we'll flag it and quote separately.
Do I need permission from my apartment association or neighbours?
For independent homes, no. For apartments and society members, your association typically needs to pass a resolution (which we help draft). For common-area systems, the full RWA needs to approve.
What's net metering, and how does it work?
Your meter gets replaced by a "bi-directional" meter that records both electricity drawn from the grid and electricity exported to the grid (when your solar produces more than you're using). At month-end, you pay only the net — drawn minus exported. We handle the application with your DISCOM.
What if I sell my house — does the system transfer?
Yes. The system is a fixture of the property and transfers with the sale. Most buyers consider it a value-add. We can transfer the AMC and monitoring app to the new owner.
Maintenance & long-term
Do panels need cleaning?
Yes — gentle cleaning 4–6 times a year for dust and bird droppings. Most customers do this themselves with a soft cloth and water. SolarSon offers an annual maintenance contract (AMC) that includes professional cleaning, electrical inspection, and inverter health check.
What's the payback period?
For a typical 3 kW home system with subsidy + EMI, payback is 4–6 years. After payback, you have 19–21 years of effectively free electricity.
Will SolarSon still be around in 10 years?
We're built to be. Our service revenue is structured around long-term AMCs, not one-off installs. The same office and team you call today are designed to be your point of contact through year 25.
Warranty
How long do solar panels actually last?
Tier-1 panels are designed for 25+ years of generation. They carry a 25-year performance warranty (meaning at year 25, they'll still produce at least 80% of their rated output) and a 10-year product warranty. Inverters typically need replacement once in 10–12 years.
What if a panel fails?
Replacement under warranty is free for the first 10 years (product warranty). For years 11–25, performance warranty kicks in: if a panel degrades below 80% of rated output, it's replaced. SolarSon handles the warranty claim with the manufacturer.
