What is the scheme?

The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a central government scheme launched in February 2024. It gives every eligible Indian homeowner a direct subsidy of up to ₹78,000 toward installing a rooftop solar system, plus up to 300 free units of electricity per month after installation.

The scheme is open until March 2027.

₹78,000 is the maximum subsidy per home, regardless of system size. A 5 kW system gets the same ₹78,000 as a 3 kW system. Choosing the right size depends on your bill and roof — not the subsidy.

Eligibility checklist.

You're eligible if all of the below are true.

  • You own the home (or have written owner consent for a rented home).
  • The home has a valid electricity connection in your name.
  • The roof has enough unobstructed sunlit space (typically 80+ sq ft for a 1 kW system).
  • You have a bank account in your name for the subsidy credit.
  • You haven't already claimed the subsidy for the same address.

    We coordinate with your local DISCOM (APSPDCL / APEPDCL / TGSPDCL) for technical feasibility approval.

    We submit installation photos and the commissioning report.

    The DISCOM does a final inspection.

    The subsidy is credited directly to your bank account by the central government, typically within 30 days of inspection.

Common subsidy questions.

Is the subsidy in addition to net metering benefits?
Yes. The ₹78,000 subsidy and your monthly net metering credits are independent — you get both. The subsidy is a one-time discount on installation; net metering credits show up on your bill every month.
Can I claim the subsidy if my home is on a 2nd-floor apartment?
Yes for the apartment owner who has exclusive roof rights (e.g., a duplex penthouse). Standard apartment owners share the roof and typically claim a society-level installation instead — see the Apartments & Societies page.
What if my DISCOM rejects the application?
Rejections are usually for fixable issues — wrong document copy, electrical connection mismatch, or sanctioned-load conflict. We resubmit free of charge. In the rare unfixable case, we refund any advance.
Can I still claim the subsidy if I pay through EMI?
Yes. The subsidy is credited to your bank account; the EMI loan is structured around the post-subsidy net cost. The bank confirms eligibility — we provide the standard PM Surya Ghar documents.
What documents do you need from me?
Aadhaar, PAN, last 3 months of electricity bills, a property document (sale deed or owner NOC), and bank-account details for the subsidy credit. We collect everything via a single WhatsApp upload link.
How long does the subsidy credit actually take?
Technical feasibility approval: 7–14 days. Installation: another 7–10 days after approval. DISCOM inspection: 10–21 days. Subsidy credit: ~30 days after inspection. Total: about 60–80 days from application.
